1.2% of Nigerians Live with HIV/AIDS, Says NOA

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has revealed that 1.2% of Nigeria’s population is living with HIV/AIDS.

This statistic was announced during a nationwide sensitisation campaign launched in Ibadan. The event covered topics such as World HIV Day, security awareness, discouraging the “get-rich-quick” mindset, World Human Rights Day, and the Tax Reform Bill.

Lanre Issa-Onilu, the agency’s Director General, represented by Dr. Ayoola Olufemi, Director of Health and Social Care, called for increased public awareness to curb the spread of the virus. He highlighted the importance of collective efforts in tackling the epidemic.

The administration’s efforts in HIV prevention were commended, alongside NOA’s initiatives to provide free counselling services and build partnerships with local and international organisations to combat stigma and discrimination against those living with the disease.

The agency urged Nigerians to take advantage of available health services, adopt responsible practices, and support individuals affected by HIV/AIDS.
