124 Dead in Sudanese Village Attack Amid Civil War

At least 124 people were killed in an attack by Sudan’s paramilitary group, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), on a village south of the capital, Khartoum. The assault is one of the deadliest in a brutal civil conflict that has shown no signs of easing.

The RSF and Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) have been locked in a power struggle since April last year, with both sides implicated in violence against civilians. This latest attack follows the defection of the RSF commander in Al-Jazirah, sparking a surge in militia violence in the region.

A member of the Resistance Committees, a local Sudanese network, reported over 200 injuries and the detention of around 150 civilians during the assault on Al-Sareeha village. The true toll may be much higher, with communication issues complicating documentation efforts. The RSF has reportedly seized all Starlink devices, the sole means of communication for civilians in the area.

The Sudan Doctors Network corroborated accounts of mass killings, stating that the RSF had committed a massacre in Al-Sareeha, leading to widespread casualties and displacement of hundreds as villagers flee further attacks.

The conflict has escalated into a humanitarian crisis, with thousands dead and millions displaced. Reports have previously documented RSF-led violence, including enslavement and other severe abuses, particularly in Sudan’s western Darfur region.
