A woman named Sainabou Gaye died on Tuesday after being struck by a military vehicle in Busumbala. The army confirmed the incident and announced that an investigation is underway, led by the Military Police.

The army’s transport commander reportedly visited the Brikama Health Centre, where the victim was taken, to offer support to her family. While the statement expressed condolences, it did not reveal the identity of the officer or officers involved in the incident.

The case has sparked concern among human rights groups, who are calling for full transparency and urging that the police also take part in the investigation.

A rights organization emphasized that any death of a civilian, even if caused by the military, should trigger a police-led criminal investigation. They acknowledged the army’s initiative to investigate but urged that the process be impartial, professional, and that the findings be made public.
