Lightning Strike Kills 14 at Church Service in Ugandan Refugee Camp

In northern Uganda, a lightning strike tragically killed 14 people attending a prayer service in a refugee camp. The incident occurred on Saturday in the remote district of Lamwo, according to Ugandan police.

The victims were inside a metallic makeshift structure in the Palabek settlement camp, home to many refugees from South Sudan. Thirty-four other individuals were injured during the strike, with authorities still working to identify the deceased.

Lightning-related fatalities are not uncommon in Uganda, especially during the rainy season. However, police confirmed that no fire followed the lightning strike, which adds to the recurring risks faced by vulnerable communities in the area.
