Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have faced sharp criticism from royal commentators over their recent international trips, which have been labeled as “hypocritical.” The couple’s visit to Colombia earlier this year particularly drew attention, with Kinsey Schofield questioning Harry’s earlier claims of safety concerns in the UK.
“Harry claimed he feared for his wife’s safety in the UK, citing extreme scenarios. Yet, he felt comfortable traveling to Colombia, which seems contradictory,” Schofield remarked.
The Colombia trip, organized at the invitation of the country’s Vice President, resembled a quasi-royal tour. Critics pointed out the high costs and the couple’s perceived deviation from traditional diplomatic norms. This visit followed a similar trip to Nigeria, sparking further controversy about their motives and priorities.
“These tours are usually aimed at fostering diplomatic or trade relations on behalf of governments. Their visits seem to suggest entirely different priorities,” added Schofield.
Another royal expert, Russell Myers, criticized the couple’s choice of attire during visits to economically disadvantaged regions. “Appearing in designer outfits worth tens of thousands while visiting underprivileged communities sends the wrong message,” he noted.
While Harry and Meghan have recently focused on individual projects, they remain committed to their shared endeavors through their organization, Archewell.
