The Association of Gambian Manufacturers (AGM) has been honored with a prestigious award for its exceptional contributions to fostering investment and industrial growth in The Gambia. This recognition was presented during the 2nd Gambia-Senegal Economic Trade and Investment Forum, held at the Sir Dawda Jawara International Conference Center on December 19-20, 2024.
The award, acknowledging AGM’s significant role in the event’s success, was jointly presented by The Gambia High Commission in Dakar, the Gambia Investment and Export Promotion Agency (GIEPA), and Senegal’s APIX.
During an interview, AGM President Farimang Saho expressed his gratitude, highlighting the dedication and hard work of the association’s members and executives. Founded over three decades ago, the AGM has been a vital advocate for creating a conducive environment for manufacturing in The Gambia. Despite challenges like the global financial crisis and unfavorable policies, the AGM has rebounded strongly with support from partners like the UNDP and EU.
Under its newly elected leadership, the AGM has achieved several milestones, including:
Duty-free importation of raw materials.
Membership in key national and regional business councils.
Strategic partnerships, such as MOUs with Moroccan enterprises and Senegalese trade unions.
Collaboration with Chinese universities for vocational training programs targeting women and youth.
Saho emphasized the AGM’s commitment to strengthening trade relations, noting invitations to upcoming events like the Kaolack Business Forum and Trade Fair in January 2025.
The AGM has also been a key contributor to The Gambia’s economic development, playing a pivotal role in achieving and surpassing the Gambia Revenue Authority’s 2024 tax revenue target of 19.2 billion dalasis.
The recognition underscores AGM’s instrumental role in driving industrial progress and fostering regional economic collaboration.
