Wildfires are devastating Los Angeles, with seven active blazes consuming thousands of acres fueled by strong winds and dry conditions. Firefighters are struggling to contain the infernos, which have forced tens of thousands to evacuate.
The largest, the Pacific Palisades fire, has become the most destructive in the city’s history, claiming over 1,000 buildings and threatening celebrity homes. Since Tuesday, it has spread to nearly 16,000 acres, displacing 30,000 residents.
Other significant fires include the Eaton fire in Altadena, which has consumed 10,000 acres and caused five fatalities, and the Sunset fire in Hollywood Hills, threatening iconic landmarks. Despite intense firefighting efforts, containment remains minimal, with officials describing the situation as “rapidly expanding.”
Satellite imagery shows the massive smoke plumes, visible from space, while before-and-after photos highlight the destruction, such as the Jewish Temple in Pasadena, severely affected by the Eaton fire.
This crisis underscores the growing severity of California’s wildfire seasons, exacerbated by climate conditions, as residents and emergency responders face unprecedented challenges.
