Two Men Jailed for Eight Years for Theft in Brikama

Two men, Ebrima Badjie and Modou Lamin Sabally, have been sentenced to eight years in prison by Principal Magistrate Anna O. Mendy of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court for stealing from a house in Brikama Newtown.

In addition to their prison terms, the court ordered them to pay D87,500 each as compensation to the victims. Failure to pay will result in an additional two years behind bars.

They were charged alongside two other individuals, Mohammed Faye and Cherno Colley, for conspiracy to commit a felony, housebreaking, and theft. However, Faye and Colley were acquitted due to a lack of evidence.

During sentencing, Magistrate Mendy noted that all four were arrested in the room of Modou Lamin Sabally, where the stolen items were recovered. However, only Badjie and Sabally admitted to the crime in their confessional statements, while Faye and Colley denied any involvement.

With no direct evidence linking Faye and Colley to the theft, the court ruled in their favor and dismissed the charges against them.

Badjie and Sabally were found to have conspired to unlawfully break into the home of Louie Mendy with the intent to steal.
