Police Caution Against Planned GALA Protest at PURA

The Gambia Police Force has issued a strong warning against a planned demonstration at the headquarters of the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA), scheduled for Friday, August 22.

The protest, organized by the youth-led group Gambians Against Looted Assets (GALA), was announced as a response to PURA’s recent decision to introduce a minimum price for mobile internet data. The movement has called on supporters to gather at PURA’s offices on Kairaba Avenue at 11 a.m. under the slogan: “PURA must reverse the unjust tariffs now.”

In reaction, police authorities stressed that no official request for the protest had been submitted, making it unauthorized. The statement warned that any attempt to hold or participate in the demonstration without following due process would be met with legal consequences.
