President Adama Barrow has extended warm congratulations to United Democratic Party (UDP) leader Ousainu Darboe on being chosen as the party’s candidate for the 2026 presidential election.
In a message addressed to Darboe, Barrow praised his rival’s long-standing leadership and the trust placed in him by his party members. He described Darboe’s selection as “a clear indication of the confidence and loyalty” that the UDP continues to show in his vision and service.
Barrow also highlighted the importance of tolerance and respect among political leaders, noting that democracy thrives when pluralism is embraced. He assured that his party, the National People’s Party (NPP), remains committed to working with all stakeholders to strengthen the nation’s democratic values.
Commending the UDP’s orderly selection process, Barrow said it was another milestone for The Gambia’s democratic journey. He expressed hope that such political exercises will continue to unite Gambians in their pursuit of peace, stability, and sustainable development.
