Barrow Inspects Development Projects in Greater Banjul Area

President Adama Barrow conducted a comprehensive inspection of key development projects in the Greater Banjul Area on Wednesday.

Accompanied by several government ministers, the president assessed the progress of ongoing construction initiatives and engaged directly with project stakeholders.

The tour commenced at the University of The Gambia’s (UTG) Faraba Campus, focusing on the second phase of the project. The visit included stops at the Environment Building in Abuko, the Hydara Industrial Zone, and the Kanilai Ferry under construction at the Banjul shipyard.

During the inspection, President Barrow emphasized the importance of timely project completion and urged contractors to adhere to schedules. At the UTG Faraba Campus, which features the Chancery Building, the School of Agriculture and Environmental Science, and the Faculty of Law, the president addressed delays caused by heavy rains and coordination challenges.

While expressing concerns over setbacks in completing the Chancery Building, President Barrow praised the progress of the Schools of Agriculture and Law, which are nearing completion. These facilities will offer modern amenities, including a laboratory for agricultural studies and a moot court for legal education.

In Abuko, the president toured the Hydara Car City, a 300-stall marketplace aimed at connecting vehicle and spare parts dealers with buyers. Plans for an additional 300 stalls are set to commence after the initial phase becomes operational.

President Barrow also visited the construction site of the Ministry of Environment’s new building, which will feature 94 offices and is expected to be completed by March 2025. The project is part of the government’s strategy to create 150,000 jobs by 2027, contributing to the nation’s economic growth.

These infrastructure projects reflect the government’s commitment to improving the lives of Gambians through accessible and inclusive public facilities, in alignment with the National Disability Act.
