Barrow Pledges Tougher Measures Against Corruption in Gambia

President Adama Barrow has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling corruption, promising stricter enforcement of anti-corruption laws and accountability measures. Speaking in an interview on Alpha Karaga’s Sarahule show set to air on Star FM/TV, Barrow emphasized that no one, not even his family members, will be exempt from these efforts.

Barrow highlighted the government’s use of independent audits, citing an investigation into statehouse renovations to ensure transparency. He stressed the importance of due process, noting that corruption allegations must first be investigated by law enforcement before action is taken.

In a bid to improve public service, Barrow announced the implementation of a clocking system to monitor employee attendance and discipline. He also revealed a 110% salary increase for government workers starting this month.

On the country’s recent hosting of the OIC summit, Barrow lauded the government’s contribution of 35% to road infrastructure, with the remaining 65% funded by the OIC. He expressed pride in the success of the event and his role as OIC chair.

Additionally, Barrow underscored his administration’s support for farmers, detailing over D1 billion in subsidies for fertilizers and groundnut pricing in the past year. He assured farmers that the government is financially prepared to purchase all groundnuts this season.

Barrow called on Gambians to join the fight against corruption, emphasizing that collective effort is crucial to sustaining progress.
