President Adama Barrow has urged members of The Gambia’s National Assembly to set aside partisan interests and work together for the good of the nation.
Delivering his 2025 State of the Nation Address, Barrow called on lawmakers to remain focused on their responsibility to the people, emphasizing unity and collective accountability.
> “I urge this august body to rise above party politics and put The Gambia first,” he said. “We are accountable to the people who placed their trust in us to manage national affairs. The institutions we serve through define our various mandates. Let us aim higher and improve our governance processes, administrative systems, and monitoring strategies.”
President Barrow also emphasized the importance of collaboration between all branches of government—the executive, legislature, and judiciary.
> “I advocate for closer cooperation in the interest of the people we all serve. As a country still building and strengthening its democratic institutions, we’ve shown that peaceful politics is possible, even when we disagree. But when the national interest is on the line, we must stand together,” he said.
The president closed his address with a message of hope and unity, expressing confidence in The Gambia’s path forward.
> “With faith, perseverance, and a shared vision, we can lead our country into a future marked by peace and prosperity.”
