The European Union and the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA) have partnered to enhance the communication capabilities of The Gambia’s National Assembly. A two-day training session, held from February 14 to 15, 2025, at Bakadaji Hotel, aimed to equip the assembly’s communication team with essential skills.
As part of the EU-CODE Project, this initiative follows the development of a three-year communication strategy designed to improve transparency and engagement. The training focused on content creation, digital communication trends, and technical skills such as photo and video editing, audio production, and control room management.
EU Deputy Head of Mission Raphaël Brigandi emphasized the importance of clear communication in policymaking, stating that a well-informed public strengthens democratic governance. Jainaba Faye, Head of International IDEA’s Country Office, highlighted the need for the National Assembly to adapt to the evolving media landscape and project itself as a transparent and trustworthy institution.
Clerk of the National Assembly Kalipha Mbye encouraged participants to apply the new strategies in their work and explore innovative approaches. He reaffirmed his commitment to providing further development opportunities for staff.
This initiative underscores the EU and International IDEA’s commitment to strengthening democratic institutions and fostering effective information-sharing practices in The Gambia.
