The Gambia has launched the Trade Logistics Charter to drive economic growth and strengthen its regional competitiveness.
The initiative focuses on improving the country’s trade and logistics sector through enhanced infrastructure, streamlined processes, and better coordination.
The signing ceremony was attended by President Adama Barrow, government officials, and representatives from the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBI), which supported the Charter’s development. The document aligns with World Trade Organisation (WTO) standards to ensure compliance with international best practices.
Key objectives of the Charter include streamlining customs operations, improving asset management, and building over 1,200 kilometers of roads to enhance trade connectivity. Vice President Muhammad B. S. Jallow emphasized its potential to increase operational efficiency, recover lost revenue, and create a more competitive future for The Gambia.
The Trade Logistics Council will oversee the Charter’s implementation, monitoring progress against specific performance metrics to ensure its success.
