As The Gambia prepares to celebrate its 60th Independence anniversary, the government has introduced a national design competition for students in Grades 7 to 12. Organized by The Gambia @60 Media and Advocacy Sub-Committee, the contest invites young artists to create commemorative brand concepts reflecting the theme: “Marching in Solidarity for Self-Reliance and National Development.”
The initiative aims to encourage creativity among students while allowing them to express their artistic interpretations of national unity and progress. It is open to students from conventional schools, Madrassas, and other equivalent educational institutions.
Participants can submit hand-drawn designs using materials from their Arts and Crafts classes. Submissions will be coordinated through Regional Education Directorates to ensure accessibility for students across the country. All entries must be labeled and delivered to the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) in Banjul by Friday, February 28, 2025.
A panel of experienced art professionals will evaluate the submissions, selecting the most outstanding designs for exhibition. The winning entries will be featured in a visual arts showcase highlighting The Gambia’s transformation over the past 60 years.
Through this initiative, the government seeks to inspire young artists while promoting national pride and self-reliance. As the Diamond Jubilee approaches, the competition serves as a creative tribute to The Gambia’s artistic talent and cultural heritage.
