Gambia Police Strengthen Efforts to Reduce Traffic Accidents on Bertil Harding Highway, Says PRO Sisawo

In an effort to combat the rising number of traffic accidents along the Bertil Harding Highway and other key roads, the Gambia Police Force has intensified its road safety measures. Public Relations Officer, ASP Modou Musa Sisawo, revealed in an interview with The Fatu Network that patrol teams have been deployed in accident-prone areas to enhance safety.

This initiative follows a series of tragic accidents that highlighted the need for improved road safety, especially with the upcoming 13th Banjul Islamic Summit. Sisawo explained that the police have received significant support, including fifty motorbikes from the government and additional vehicles from international partners, to help enforce traffic rules and minimize incidents of reckless driving.

The Bertil Harding Highway, a major route connecting Banjul to surrounding towns, has seen an alarming increase in accidents since its expansion. However, Sisawo noted that the new Highway Patrol has made significant progress in reducing both the frequency and severity of road crashes.

Beyond the Greater Banjul area, the police have extended these safety measures nationwide, focusing on key issues such as speeding, drink-driving, and failure to wear seatbelts. With motorbikes deployed across the country, the Gambia Police Force is committed to ensuring safer roads for all.

Sisawo emphasized that while progress has been made, ongoing efforts are crucial to making every journey safer.
