Gambia Prepares for 60th Independence Celebration with Regional Cultural Representatives

The National Centre for Arts and Culture (NCAC) has completed a series of consultative meetings with regional governors to select cultural groups for The Gambia’s 60th Independence Anniversary celebration.

Led by Deputy Director General Siaka Fadera, the NCAC technical team traveled across the country to engage governors on the selection of cultural representatives from each region. The initiative aims to place cultural performances at the heart of the Diamond Jubilee, scheduled for February 18, 2025, fostering national unity and cultural revival.

During the discussions, Fadera highlighted the theme of the celebration—Marching in Solidarity for Self-Reliance and National Development—and emphasized the significance of cultural representation in the event. Governors welcomed the initiative, using the opportunity to showcase the diverse cultural heritage of their regions.

They also pointed out key cultural and tourism assets that deserve greater attention. The meetings concluded with expressions of appreciation from NCAC officials, who look forward to vibrant regional participation in the celebrations.
