A Gambian member of parliament has formally appealed to the President of the United States to reverse the suspension of USAID funding to The Gambia, warning that the decision threatens progress in vital areas such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure.
In a written appeal, Gibbi Mballow, National Assembly Member for Lower Fulladu West, urged the US administration to reconsider the executive order halting aid. He emphasized that USAID has played a pivotal role in transforming lives in vulnerable communities across the country.
Mballow highlighted that the withdrawal of support could derail years of development work, weakening gains in governance, human rights, and democratic growth. He also stressed the importance of continued collaboration between the two nations.
Expressing a desire for dialogue, the lawmaker requested a meeting with the US president or an official representative to discuss the consequences of the suspension and explore possibilities for restoring the partnership.
