Gambian Police Refute Claims of Unconditional Release in Suspected Homosexuality Case

The Gambia Police Force has dismissed reports suggesting that two men arrested over the weekend for suspected homosexual activity were released without conditions or charges.

According to police spokesperson ASP Modou Musa Sisawo, the suspects were granted bail while investigations are ongoing. His response comes amid online claims that the pair had been freed unconditionally under alleged instructions from higher authorities, possibly due to international pressure.

The incident, which reportedly took place in Old Yundum, involved two individuals aged 18 and 22. They were initially held at the Police Anti-Crime Unit headquarters in Banjulinding.

When questioned about the specific charges, ASP Sisawo did not provide full details but hinted that the allegations may involve offences classified under unnatural acts.

The police confirmed the arrests earlier in the week and reiterated that the investigation remains active.
