Police have successfully rescued a pair of seven-year-old twins who were allegedly abducted in Brikama Gidda on Monday while on their way to school.
Authorities reported that three individuals, including the children’s father, were arrested while attempting to flee to Senegal.
According to police spokesman Cadet Modou Musa Sisawo, the children were found in Dimbaya village near the border. “The children are safe, and investigations are ongoing. We appreciate the public’s cooperation, which is vital in combating crime,” he stated.
The Gambia Immigration Department provided further details, revealing that their personnel recovered the missing twins early on March 18. After a thorough investigation and intelligence-gathering operation, the children were located and secured.
The three suspects—a man claiming to be the children’s father, another man, and a woman who allegedly assisted in the abduction—were apprehended while trying to escape through Dimbaya. The children have since been handed over to the Madina Salanding Police Post for further investigation.
Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to inter-agency cooperation to enhance public safety and strengthen border security.
