New Centre Addresses Social and Economic Challenges for Gambian Women

A newly established centre in Farafenni, The Gambia, is offering vital services to women, particularly those who have experienced gender-based violence (GBV). This One-Stop Shop Entrepreneurship and GBV Support Center brings together a variety of resources, providing health care, psychological support, and economic assistance to help women rebuild their lives.

The centre aims to address both social and economic issues by fostering entrepreneurship and supporting cross-border trade. It offers business training, guidance on registering businesses, and professional packaging and labeling services to help women improve their sales and create more jobs.

The centre is designed as a hub for business development and also provides a safe space for survivors of violence, offering legal and psychosocial support. It includes training rooms, consultation spaces, and an innovation hub for local women entrepreneurs. Additionally, cross-border traders benefit from the Trade Information and Border Assistance Office, which provides essential trade resources.

The centre is a collaborative initiative between local authorities and international organizations, offering comprehensive support to empower women economically and socially, helping them to overcome challenges and enhance their livelihoods.
