Overcharging Hajj Pilgrims Could Cost Travel Agencies Their Licenses

Travel agencies in The Gambia have been warned that any found charging Hajj pilgrims more than the official package price will face disqualification and removal from the list of authorized agencies.

Religious Affairs Minister Hamat Bah issued this warning during a press conference, emphasizing that agencies caught inflating prices would also be required to refund affected customers in full. “I don’t want to name anyone, but the agencies involved know themselves,” Bah stated.

The official Hajj package for 2025 is set at D525,000, which is D6,000 less than last year. While travel agencies can provide optional services for customers with specific preferences, they are strictly prohibited from overcharging.

Bah also confirmed that The Gambia’s Hajj quota remains at 2,000 pilgrims. He stressed that this allocation should prioritize pilgrims traveling from within the country rather than Gambians living abroad.

The minister also announced the 15 authorized travel agencies for the 2025 Hajj:
