President Adama Barrow has issued a strong warning to civil servants he accuses of deliberately obstructing government efforts. Speaking at a meeting with Muslim elders during Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations at the State House, he criticized public officials who, while claiming neutrality, secretly support opposition parties.
He pointed to cases where officials intentionally delay processing documents or legal cases to frustrate citizens and turn them against the government. “Some have even declared that they will not work for me. But they are not working for me—they are working for the country. If they neglect their duties, they will face consequences,” he warned.
Criticism of Media and Religious Leaders
President Barrow also accused certain media outlets of promoting negative narratives and inciting unrest. “Some journalists only write about the government’s failures, as if they are hoping for chaos,” he said.
He further criticized religious leaders who use their platforms to speak against his administration. He urged imams to engage with the government for accurate information before making public statements.
Domestic Revenue and National Unity
On economic matters, Barrow highlighted efforts to boost domestic revenue collection, acknowledging the decline in international financial support. He also called for national unity, emphasizing that peace is essential for development.
“My presidency will end one day, but I hope the positive changes we have made will remain,” he stated.
