Russia is exploring the possibility of eliminating visas for citizens from several African nations. Discussions are underway to establish a visa-free regime with nine countries in Africa and the Middle East, according to Alexei Klimov, head of the Consular Department of Russian diplomacy.
While the exact timeline for these agreements remains unclear, negotiations are moving forward at varying paces with different partner countries. Klimov mentioned that updates would be provided once the agreements are formalized through bilateral arrangements.
Earlier, Russia had revealed its intention to simplify visa requirements for several African countries, including Zimbabwe. Currently, Russia maintains visa-free arrangements with nations such as Angola, Mozambique, Malawi, São Tomé and Príncipe, Tunisia, and Morocco.
Russia has been increasing its presence in Africa, particularly in countries within the Sahel region, which have recently seen political upheavals.
