A 32-year-old shopkeeper, Muhammed Jallow, was arrested in Fajikunda on Saturday following allegations that he assaulted a young girl.
According to the victim, she went to the shop to buy sweets when the shopkeeper convinced her to enter his living quarters and then assaulted her. She stated that the incident only ended when someone was heard outside the shop.
The girl’s mother, a widow, realized something was wrong when she heard her daughter crying out in pain. “It breaks my heart to think about what this man did to my child. She is too young to go through this,” the mother said, visibly emotional.
The victim was examined at the FajiKunda Health Center, where it was confirmed she had suffered injuries. The accused, currently in police custody, has denied the claims.
