Tourists Hospitalized in Fiji After Drinking Cocktails at Resort Bar

Seven foreign tourists were hospitalized in Fiji after falling ill from cocktails consumed at a resort bar, authorities confirmed on Monday.

The incident occurred on Saturday at the Warwick Resort near Sigatoka, involving Australian and American visitors. Symptoms included nausea, vomiting, and neurological issues, according to a spokesperson from Fiji’s Health Ministry.

Two individuals remain hospitalized in stable condition, while the rest were discharged within two days.

Speculation about alcohol poisoning has circulated, but officials have not yet identified the cause. Toxicology tests are underway, with results expected in a few days.

The resort assured authorities that no alterations were made to the quality or ingredients of the drinks served. The affected tourists reportedly consumed piña coladas at a crowded bar on the night of the incident.

Fiji’s Tourism Minister emphasized that such cases are extremely rare in the country and stated there were no similar reports elsewhere in the region.

The resort’s management is cooperating with the ongoing investigation to determine the cause of the illness. Meanwhile, travelers have been advised to exercise caution regarding the consumption of alcoholic beverages.
