Trump Declares Border Emergency and Ends Asylum App in Immigration Crackdown

President Donald Trump has taken swift action on immigration policy, declaring illegal immigration at the US-Mexico border a national emergency. From the Oval Office, Trump signed several executive orders, including one targeting birthright citizenship and another classifying Mexican drug cartels as terrorist organizations.

The administration also announced the immediate discontinuation of CBP One, a mobile application previously used by migrants to schedule appointments at border ports of entry. This move has left thousands of migrants stranded, many of whom had been waiting for months to seek asylum legally.

In his inaugural address, Trump reiterated his promise to halt illegal immigration and deport millions of undocumented migrants, emphasizing the need to safeguard national security. He also directed the Department of Defense to bolster border security measures, including deploying additional resources and counter-drone technology.

Critics have condemned these actions, with immigration advocacy groups warning of their humanitarian and economic impacts. Many have expressed concern that the policies will separate families and destabilize communities. Legal challenges, including one from the American Civil Liberties Union, have already been initiated in response to the abrupt policy changes.

Despite the backlash, Trump defended his administration’s approach as a necessary step to protect the nation from external threats and uphold immigration laws.
