VDF Distributes Over 7,000 Bags of Sugar to Needy Gambians

Vision Development Foundation (VDF), a Gambian NGO, has distributed over 7,000 bags of sugar to vulnerable families across the country as part of its annual Ramadan initiative. The donation, led by philanthropist Modou Turo Darboe, included more than 5,000 regular bags and over 2,000 diabetic-friendly bags.

Since its establishment, VDF has provided food aid and financial assistance to hundreds of needy communities, offering critical support during the holy month of Ramadan.

Saihou Fofana, the foundation’s Public Relations Officer, emphasized VDF’s commitment to transparency, ensuring that aid reaches those who need it most. “On behalf of our CEO, we urge all recipients to remain patient and trust that the donations will be delivered to the intended beneficiaries,” he stated.

Mahamadou Ceesay, chairman of Basse Area Council, highlighted the importance of the initiative, particularly for vulnerable communities in the Upper River Region (URR). He acknowledged the longstanding collaboration between VDF and the council, pledging that the aid would be distributed fairly.

“As a Council, we will work with our development committees to ensure a transparent process. With over 367 communities in URR, we will prioritize the most vulnerable, and every recipient will be properly documented,” Ceesay assured.

Hon. Saihou Jawara, chairperson of Kuntaur Area Council, described the donation as a valued annual tradition. “Every Ramadan, VDF provides sugar to CRR North, easing the burden on many families. This generosity has made a significant impact in our region,” he noted.

The distribution strategy will focus on reaching the most remote and disadvantaged communities, with efforts to ensure fair and accountable allocation.
