Witness: Accused PIU Shooter Claimed He Was Threatened by Jamaican Musician

A former co-worker of Ousainou Bojang—the man facing charges for the fatal shooting of two police officers in 2023—took the stand yesterday as the fifth defense witness in the ongoing trial.

Famara Badjie, who previously worked alongside Bojang as a security guard at a lodge in Brufut, recounted events from the night of the incident.

According to Badjie, Bojang arrived to take over his shift at around 7 p.m. on September 12, 2023, the same day the two officers were killed. When Badjie returned the next morning, he found Bojang lying beside the lodge’s swimming pool, visibly distressed and holding a cutlass.

> “I asked him what was wrong,” Badjie told the court. “He said he had been threatened by a Jamaican musician called Mr. Cartel.”

Badjie also testified that Bojang spoke of ongoing issues with his partner—a white woman—and mentioned his intention to travel to Djouloulou, a town in southern Senegal, to seek spiritual help.

Badjie confirmed to the court that he gave a formal statement to the police after the incident, and that statement was read aloud during the trial.

Meanwhile, defense counsel A. Sillah, representing the second accused, Amie Bojang, informed the court that the legal team had received additional evidence from the state. The defense plans to include this information in their formal response to a motion seeking to block top government officials from testifying in the case.

Presiding judge Justice Ebrima Jaiteh directed both the prosecution and defense to file all necessary documents before June 23, when the matter will resume.
