Woman Killed While Protecting Child from Assault

Authorities in Old Yundum are investigating the death of a 60-year-old woman who was fatally attacked while intervening to protect a minor from sexual assault.

 

According to police reports, the woman confronted her neighbor, 31-year-old Kemo Manneh, after he allegedly attempted to assault a 12-year-old girl. In response, the suspect violently attacked her. She was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries on March 31.

 

The minor was also taken to the hospital for medical evaluation, which confirmed that no physical harm had occurred beyond the attempted assault.

 

The suspect has been arrested and remains in police custody as investigations continue.

 

Fugitive in Taxi Driver Murder Case Captured

 

In a separate case, police have arrested Ebou Secka, who had escaped custody after being linked to the murder of Wellingara taxi driver Ebrima Ceesay. Secka was apprehended in Senegal and extradited to The Gambia, where he is expected to face trial in the Banjul Magistrate Court.

 

Suspect Arrested in Alleged Child Kidnapping

 

Meanwhile, authorities have detained a suspect accused of kidnapping 11-year-old Samuel Mendy in Dippa Kunda on March 29.

 

Police reports indicate that the child was unlawfully taken and held for a period of time before being found. Medical examinations confirmed that he was unharmed. He has since been reunited with his family.

 

Officials praised the child’s family for their quick action and cooperation, which played a crucial role in his recovery. Police have reassured the public of their commitment to protecting children and ensuring justice in such cases.
