The World Bank has approved a $47.7 million grant to support The Gambia’s public sector through the Public Administration Modernisation for Citizen-Centric Service Delivery (PAMP) program. This five-year initiative is the first of its kind in the country.
The program aims to enhance domestic resource mobilization, financial reporting, human resource management, and citizen engagement, focusing on the education and health sectors. By achieving key targets, the government will unlock additional funds to improve service delivery while strengthening spending controls within public systems.
Key objectives include increasing the tax-to-GDP ratio, reducing tax expenditures, and improving financial transparency by ensuring accurate and comprehensive public financial statements. The initiative also seeks to optimize payroll data management, promote gender equality, and foster climate-resilient development in critical sectors like health and education.
The program underscores the government’s commitment to reforms designed to boost accountability and efficiency in public service delivery. The Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs will oversee its implementation.
