The National Assembly Member (NAM) for Wuli West, Nfamara Sabally, has vehemently denied social media allegations that he was involved in the ritualistic slaughter of 50 goats for personal gain. In a phone interview, Sabally dismissed the accusations as unfounded and politically motivated efforts to harm his reputation.
Sabally clarified that the goats were part of a charitable initiative run by HMD, a humanitarian organization focused on providing food aid to underprivileged families. The project, now in its second year, aims to support vulnerable communities with essential items like rice, sugar, cash, and meat, particularly during religious celebrations. “This year, we expanded our efforts, reaching seven communities. Many families struggle to afford basic necessities, including meat. So, with the support of HMD, we arranged for these goats to be distributed to those in need,” Sabally explained.
He further detailed that the goats were entrusted to local village heads, known as alkalos, before being slaughtered and distributed to families. This step was taken to prevent beneficiaries from selling the animals and keeping the money, ensuring the meat directly reached those in need.
Sabally also accused his critic, Lamin Fatty, a member of the opposition PDOIS party, of waging a smear campaign against him. He emphasized that Fatty, who had previously received food assistance from him during Ramadan, was now attacking his character for political reasons. Sabally pointed to his efforts with HMD, which has helped families displaced by disasters and built six houses, asking why these positive actions were being ignored.
In response to claims that foreigners were involved, Sabally reaffirmed his commitment to serving his constituents, stating that his focus remains on completing his term peacefully and continuing to assist those in need. He urged the public to reject the allegations and emphasized that his only goal was to help his community.
