18-Year-Old Farmer Arrested with Cannabis at Banjul Ferry Terminal

Officers from the Drug Law Enforcement Agency (DLEAG) stationed at the Banjul ferry terminal have arrested 18-year-old Saikouba Jarra, a Malian farmer from Ginack, for possession of two bundles of suspected cannabis.

The drugs were hidden inside a military camouflage bag.According to DLEAG’s Public Relations Officer, the agency has made multiple arrests across the country involving various types of drugs. In a separate case, 37-year-old Ebrima Tamba and 33-year-old Lamin Jarju, both residents of Kunkujang, were arrested by the Anti-Crime Unit of the Gambia Police Force.

They were found with nine bundles of suspected cannabis concealed in cement papers and stored in a blue nylon bag.In another incident, 32-year-old Thomas Jarju, a welder from Latri Kunda German, was arrested with two bundles of cannabis at the Serrekunda DLEAG station.

The drugs were hidden in cement papers and placed in a black and blue backpack.Additionally, 34-year-old Mass Senghore, a welder from Banjul, was arrested by the Banjul DLEAG station with fourteen wraps of suspected cannabis concealed in white papers and stored in a waist bag.

Further investigations led to the arrest of two more suspects, Alieu Singhateh and Alieu Baldeh, mechanics from Latri Kunda Sabiji. They were caught with 97 parcels of cannabis wrapped in white paper and packed in multi-colored nylon bags.

All suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue.
