2014 Coup Plotter Warns Re-electing President Barrow Will Lead to Greater Harm for Gambia

Cherno Njie, a Gambian residing in Austin, Texas, who was involved in the failed coup of 2014, has warned that re-electing President Adama Barrow would be detrimental to Gambia’s future.

In an interview with Peter Gomez on the *Coffee Time* morning show, Njie urged Gambians to ensure Barrow’s current term is his last, stating that the country cannot continue under such leadership.Njie criticized Barrow’s governance, highlighting a decade of what he described as a “disaster” and warned that another term would further harm the nation. He pointed out the government’s failure to provide essential services like clean water, electricity, and quality education, accusing it of borrowing money in the name of citizens while enriching top officials.

Njie emphasized the need for transparency and accountability, arguing that without strict penalties for corruption, the problem will persist. He also addressed the wider societal issue, noting that corruption has become a norm tolerated by many Gambians. Njie called on citizens to reflect on their values and push for genuine reform to end these practices.
