7 Killed by Electrocution in Niumi

Seven men lost their lives in a tragic electrocution incident yesterday in Kerr Galo village, located in Lower Niumi, near Essau.

The victims were reportedly working on a project supported by the World Bank— the Gambia Electricity Restoration and Modernization Project (GERMP), overseen by Nawec.

Buba Badjie, Communication Manager at Nawec, confirmed the reports, explaining that an investigation team had been dispatched to the site. Initial findings suggest that the deceased were not Nawec employees but were workers from a company contracted or subcontracted for the project.

The incident has left the local community in shock, with many visiting the site, only to witness a deeply distressing scene of bodies scattered across the area.

The Gambia police have launched an investigation into the cause of the incident.
