Government Invests Over D120 Million to Improve Quality Education in Gambia

The Minister of Higher Education revealed that the Gambian government has invested more than D120 million to enhance the quality of education nationwide.

The funds are primarily aimed at supporting the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) in its mission to provide free and high-quality education. This initiative focuses on improving educational infrastructure, expanding access to learning materials, and enhancing teacher training programs, with the goal of addressing existing challenges and ensuring all children receive a solid educational foundation.

Recently, the Gambia Printing and Publishing Corporation (GPPC) delivered 213,000 textbooks to MoBSE, covering subjects such as English, mathematics, civic education, physics, chemistry, and biology. This marks a significant step in the country’s educational history, as these textbooks were printed locally for the first time.

The Managing Director of GPPC, Momodou Ceesay, stated that these books are intended for senior secondary schools. He explained that the total project, valued at D120 million, involves producing textbooks for all core subjects. This initiative is seen as a groundbreaking move in supporting education in The Gambia.

The Minister of Higher Education also expressed gratitude for the unprecedented support from President Adama Barrow in improving the nation’s educational system.
