Equatorial Guinea’s Vice-President, Teodoro Mangue, has announced strict disciplinary measures following the viral spread of explicit videos allegedly involving a senior government official and the spouses of prominent individuals. Mangue has ordered the immediate suspension of officials engaging in inappropriate behavior in government offices.
In a statement, Mangue emphasized the government’s commitment to upholding public integrity and enforcing codes of conduct. He condemned the actions depicted in the videos as a violation of public ethics, stating that any official involved would face severe consequences.
The scandal began when explicit footage involving Baltasar Engonga, a high-ranking civil servant and son of a key figure in the Central African Economic and Monetary Community, appeared on social media. Engonga was recently arrested on unrelated corruption charges, prompting further investigation and a crackdown by the authorities. Mangue directed internet providers to prevent further circulation of these videos.
Equatorial Guinea’s Attorney General clarified that, while the encounters were consensual, Engonga could still face health-related charges if a sexually transmitted infection is involved.
As part of the disciplinary measures, Mangue announced that the government would ban all sexual conduct in government offices. He emphasized the importance of professionalism and ethical behavior, reminding public servants that their responsibilities are to the nation’s development. Additionally, surveillance cameras will soon be installed in all government offices to monitor compliance and prevent misconduct.
This policy aims to reinforce respect and integrity within the public sector, with any official caught in future violations facing disciplinary action and possible dismissal.
