Customs officers from the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) at Banjul International Airport intercepted three packages containing 26.4 kilograms of ecstasy pills at the Redcoat freight offices yesterday.
The GRA emphasized the dual responsibilities of its customs officials, stating they are committed to both revenue collection and national security.
Customs Manager Awa Mendy-Samba led the operation, working closely with the Drug Law Enforcement Agency (DLEAG) and other security agencies to ensure the proper transfer and handling of the seized drugs. This collaboration, the authority noted, strengthens efforts to combat illegal activities at the nation’s borders.
While revenue collection remains a key focus for the GRA, the authority reiterated its dedication to preventing the influx of illicit substances into the country, ensuring a safer environment for all.
This seizure follows a recent operation at the same airport where over 47,000 ecstasy tablets were confiscated.
