Chief Magistrate Faces Drug Dealing and Misconduct Charges

Chief Magistrate Pa Modou Njie appeared at the Bundung Magistrates Court to face multiple charges, including drug dealing, abuse of office, fraud, and theft. The allegations stem from incidents that reportedly occurred during his tenure at the Bundung court between August 2023 and November 2024.

Prosecutors allege that Njie unlawfully removed 104 blocks of cocaine stored as evidence in his office, selling 31 of them with an estimated value of D46.5 million.

Njie pleaded not guilty to all charges. The lead prosecutor, Commissioner Sanneh, opposed bail, citing concerns that Njie might influence an ongoing investigation or flee the country. However, Njie’s defense lawyer, Lamin Camara, argued that his client’s detention since December 3 violated his constitutional rights.

The court granted Njie bail set at D3 million with two Gambian sureties. His travel documents were also confiscated to prevent flight risks.

The case has attracted significant attention as the public awaits further developments.
