Court Orders State to Provide Lawyer for Murder Suspect

Justice Omar Suso of the Brikama High Court has directed the state to appoint a legal representative for Oumie Jallow, who is facing a murder charge. The order mandates the National Agency for Legal Aid (NALA) to provide her with legal counsel.

Jallow is accused of killing her co-wife in Janlangba village in September last year. During a court session on Wednesday, a representative from the Attorney General’s Chambers confirmed that the indictment had been received.

When asked if she could afford a lawyer, Jallow stated that her brothers were struggling financially and unable to hire private legal representation for her. In response, Justice Suso ruled that proceedings could not continue until she had legal counsel, as the case is a capital offence.

The judge adjourned the case to March 25, 2025, to allow the state to provide Jallow with a lawyer before she enters a plea.
