DLEAG Arrests 29, Seizes Illegal Drugs Across The Gambia

In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, The Gambia’s Drug Law Enforcement Agency (DLEAG) has arrested 29 individuals and seized large amounts of prohibited and controlled substances during a nationwide operation.

The arrests, which took place between April 29 and May 7, were carried out at various locations across the country. According to Ousman Saidybah, the agency’s spokesperson, the suspects include 23 Gambians, 2 Senegalese, 2 Dutch nationals, one Guinean, and one Tunisian.

Among those arrested were four Gambian youths suspected of jointly possessing 17 wraps of the synthetic drug Kush. They were apprehended in Sanchaba and are being treated as alleged child offenders.

In a separate bust, 1,265 suspected ecstasy pills destined for Senegal were intercepted at the Barra and Banjul ferry terminals. One Senegalese suspect was caught with 709 pills, a Gambian with 200, and another individual was arrested at the Mbollet-Ba checkpoint carrying 145 pills of ecstasy along with four pellets of suspected cocaine.

The operation underscores DLEAG’s ongoing efforts to clamp down on drug trafficking and abuse in The Gambia as the fight against narcotics continues to intensify.
