A Bundung magistrates’ court has remanded Ensa Kujabi after he pleaded guilty to stealing building materials worth approximately D200,000 from his employer, Abou Jeng, a United Nations staff member.
Prosecutors revealed that Kujabi, who worked as Jeng’s driver, took the materials to construct his own house. The stolen items included floor, kitchen, and wall tiles valued at D60,000, fifty bags of cement worth D20,000, solar lamps valued at D10,500, a tape worth D5,000, corrugated iron sheets valued at D20,000, a Panasonic fan worth D1,900, paints valued at D45,000, garden seeds worth D75,000, and five rolls of cable wire valued at D7,500.
According to the prosecution, Jeng had stored the materials in Sanchaba Sulay Jobe, intending to transport them to Kuntaya, where he was building a house. However, upon checking, he discovered the items were missing. A visit to Kujabi’s residence revealed that the materials had been used in the construction of his house.
In his plea for leniency, Kujabi begged the court for mercy, citing his sick father, wife, and family responsibilities.
Magistrate Ismaila Dibba adjourned the case to April 10 for sentencing.
