Five Young Men Sentenced for Reckless Driving

Five young men have been sentenced by the Brusubi Magistrates’ Court for reckless driving offenses. The convicts are Momodou Martin Sanyang, Serign Mass Gaye, Muhammed Bah, Ismaila Faal, and Samba Ceesay.

The court, presided over by Senior Magistrate Jallow, found all five guilty under the Motor Traffic Act. The charges included reckless driving and the unauthorized use of tinted glass. While some offenses carried fines or imprisonment—or both—the tinted glass charge carried only a fine, unless payment was defaulted.

Sentences Handed Down:

Momodou Martin Sanyang – fined D25,000 and sentenced to 3 years imprisonment with hard labour.

Serign Mass Gaye – fined D1,000 plus 3 months imprisonment with hard labour, and an additional fine of D25,000 with 3 years imprisonment.

Muhammed Bah – fined D20,000 or, in default, to serve 2 years imprisonment with hard labour. He also faced another charge, attracting a D25,000 fine and 3 years imprisonment.

Ismaila Faal – fined D25,000 with 3 years imprisonment, and an additional fine of D20,000 or 2 years imprisonment if not paid.

Samba Ceesay – fined D25,000 with 3 years imprisonment and hard labour.

However, Magistrate Jallow ordered that Sanyang and Gaye—the first and second accused—be transferred to the Juvenile Wing at Jeshwang in light of their ages.
