IOC Opens Media Rights Tender for 2026-2032 Olympics in Sub-Saharan Africa

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has launched a tender process for media rights in sub-Saharan Africa and South Africa, covering the Olympic Games for the 2026-2032 period. Interested parties have until November 5 to submit their bids.

This tender process includes the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles (2028) and Brisbane (2032), as well as the Winter Games in Milan-Cortina (2026) and the French Alps (2030). The rights package spans 45 countries, providing a broad opportunity for media organizations to secure coverage.

For the 2024 Paris Olympics, media rights in sub-Saharan Africa were managed by the Infront agency, with free-to-air coverage in South Africa provided by SABC and additional broadcasting through SuperSport. Infront had previously handled rights for the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing and is now evaluating options for this next cycle of events.

With time zone advantages favoring sub-Saharan audiences for the 2026 and 2030 Winter Games, viewership is expected to rise. Additionally, the media rights for other regions, including New Zealand, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Caribbean, are still in the process of being finalized. As the IOC continues its global media rights negotiations, more tenders for the upcoming Olympic cycles are expected soon.
