A 31-year-old man has been remanded in custody after admitting to killing his mother in Old Yundum. Kemo Manneh appeared before Principal Magistrate Penda Sowe at the Brusubi court, where he was formally charged.
According to the charge sheet, Manneh struck his mother, Elizabeth Sanka, on the forehead with a wooden stick last Sunday, leading to her death. He pleaded guilty during the court proceedings.
Police prosecutors, led by Inspector KY Manneh and Sergeant Alieu Faye, requested the case be transferred to the high court, citing the magistrate court’s lack of jurisdiction over such serious offenses.
The court approved the transfer and ordered that the accused be held at Mile 2 Central Prison until his appearance before the high court in Banjul.
