Residents of Mandinari Darusalam Urge Government to Halt Demolition of Over 1,000 Households

Residents of Mandinari Darusalam are appealing to the government to prevent the planned eviction and demolition of more than 1,000 households in their village. These homes, which house over 20,000 people, are under threat following a notice from the Sheriff Division.

According to the eviction notice, the land is claimed to be owned by Seringne Baboucarr Jobe, and residents have been instructed to vacate by Friday, September 13. Failure to comply will result in forced eviction.

In response, the community held a press conference on Saturday, calling on the government to intervene. Ebrima Sillah, a community spokesperson, emphasized the need for authorities to seek alternative solutions for the sake of peace and humanity.

“If this eviction proceeds, more than 20,000 people will be left homeless,” Sillah warned. He further noted that the households have valid documents from the Department of Physical Planning and the village Alkalo, and have been consistently paying taxes.

The community is open to negotiations to resolve the issue and avoid conflict, Sillah concluded.
