Sudan Cuts Diplomatic Ties with UAE Over Alleged Support for Paramilitary Forces

Sudan has officially severed diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates, accusing the Gulf nation of supporting the rival Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the ongoing civil conflict. Defence Minister Yassin Ibrahim claimed the UAE was playing a “proxy” role by allegedly providing military, financial, and political backing to the RSF — an accusation the UAE strongly denies.

The decision comes after recent drone strikes attributed to the RSF targeted vital infrastructure in Port Sudan, escalating the conflict in a city that had previously been considered a safe zone. In response, Sudan announced the closure of its diplomatic missions in the UAE and the recall of its ambassador.

The war, now in its second year, has caused widespread devastation, with thousands killed and millions displaced, plunging the country deeper into a humanitarian crisis. The RSF has not responded to the latest accusations, but Sudanese forces continue to hold them responsible for the attacks.

Meanwhile, the International Court of Justice recently dismissed Sudan’s case accusing the UAE of complicity in genocide, citing procedural issues.

Despite the rising tensions, the UAE has called for urgent international efforts to end the war and prioritize humanitarian aid. Both the RSF and Sudanese army face mounting allegations of war crimes as the conflict drags on.
